Breadth of work

Made on iphone

In high school, one of my favorite hobbies was to create these little surreal digital scenes and images. My favorite part was that I was able to do it all from my iPhone. I loved being part of a community of digital graphic artists on Instagram. My art was featured over a dozen times on other Instagram accounts, including on the official pages of six of the different apps I used.

More of these pieces can be found at instagram.com/astromythical.

"Work" work

Right now, I work for Housefolios, a real estate investment software company. They hired me to do their social media, but have since transitioned me to [anything involving visual design], especially user interface design for the webapp. I've designed interactive team pages, email campaigns, Tiktoks, style guides, entirely new websites and brands (see getfastcomps.com below) and even a hoodie.

More than almost anything else, I LOVE storytelling. I initially applied to BYU as an Animation pre-major because I wanted to be able to create beautiful stories to share with the world. Whether it's with images, words, or both, I love to create worlds full of nuanced characters and tell about the journeys they go on.

"The Price" is a short story I wrote earlier this year. It has some science fiction elements, but primarily centers on an engineer and her struggle to obtain a rare machine part from an arms dealer.

indeed campaign

We spent many long hours doing research for the NSAC brief, discussing strategy after strategy. We finally settled the score between our two leading strategies the very week of presentations. (The score was a perfect tie, which led to further discussion, where we discovered a beautiful overlap of our two strategies.)

In the 24 hours before the presentation, I found a tagline I liked and quickly scribbled out a handful of executions, with help from the team. They ain't pretty, but I'll admit, I'm pretty proud of the quick copy.

nerd alert!

In recent years, my love of storytelling has grabbed me by the collar and thrown me headfirst into the fantastical world of Dungeons & Dragons. When I confess this ultimate nerdhood to friends for the first time, I usually describe D&D as "the perfect mix of writing Lord of the Rings and hosting an improv comedy night with my friends." It's an outlet that allows me to unleash pent-up story-writing energy without having to nitpick at each and every word. I love that it forces me to think on my feet and it opens the door for collaborative creativity with friends—-and it really does lead to the greatest inside jokes.

So, last fall I crafted a little fantasy world named Qemvir, grabbed a bunch of friends from home, and down the rabbit hole we went. As the "Dungeon Master" (DM for short), my job is simple. All I do is:

  • Build a fictional world with rich history

  • Describe each setting with immersive details

  • Prepare interesting situations, obstacles, characters, and rewards for the party to encounter

  • Adjudicate the rules of the game (when to roll which dice, define what is and is not possible in the world, etc.)

  • Play the part of any person or monster that the team encounters in the world

  • Prepare digital floor maps for combat encounters

  • Improvise new characters, plot points, and solutions when the party inevitably takes the story somewhere I was not prepared for.
  • Weave together each party members' different backstories and potential futures to keep the story interesting for each player.

Starting in our 3rd session, we began to record our adventures. From these recordings, we started an "actual play" podcast, throwing our two cents into this expanding genre of entertainment.

A small book of lore for the world that I prepared for my friend who plays a scholarly wizard. The first eight pages were my doing. The last three pages contain notes his character has made during our adventures. (Here's another backup link.)
